North of Duluth, in the Superior National Forest, Giving Ground is a herbal retreat where visitors can learn wild-gathering techniques for making herbal medicines. Instructors are Certified herbalists.
Thomas Wilson Shipwreck
Thomas Wilson was a whaleback ship that sunk off the Duluth harbor in 1902 after colliding with another ship. Once used to haul freight on Lake Superior, the remains nowadays sits in just 70 feet of water less than a mile from the Aerial Lift Bridge.
The Waterfront Sculpture Walk
A series of prized sculptures representing the social, cultural and historical values of Duluth and its Sister Cities in Vaxjo, Sweden; Thunder Bay, Ontario; Perozavodsk, Russia; and Ohara, Japan, create a casual stroll through an outdoor gallery of international art.
